The history of Bayer Material Protection as predecessor of LANXESS

1907
Production begins with antimicrobial agents: preservatives based on benzoic acid.

1913
Launch of wood preservative agents.

1922
Registration of Solbrol trade name for para-hydroxy-benzoate esters / parabenes.
Registration of Preventol trade name for Bayer preservatives.

1930
Development and successful marketing of phenolic active ingredients.

1940
Inclusion of Preventol® CMK and Preventol® O extra in product range.

1950
Expansion of fields of application. Solbrol® and Preventol® products used in following sectors: paints, disinfectants, hygiene, wood
preservatives, foodstuffs, leather, glues, paper and textiles.

1970
Sulfenamide agent group introduced as an anti-blue stain agent for wood lacquers. Velcorin® introduced to stabilize non-alcoholic soft drinks against microbial attack.

1980
Bayer Material Protection takes in additional sectors such as concrete additives, antifouling paints, sawn timber and plastics.

1990
Extension of Preventol wood preservative range to include such new active ingredients as Tebuconazole and Cyfluthrin.

1994
Market launch of Imidacloprid (termiticide) for wood protection and preservation of plastics.

1999
Acquisition of Bronopol business of Union Carbide (industrial preservatives).

2002
Acquisition of two families of biocide chemistry from Ondeo Nalco (Tektamer®, Metasol® and Biochek®, based on dibromdicyanobutan and thiabendazole).

2003
Notification of 18 biocides within the European Biocidal Products Directive (BPD), identification of several other biocides.
